Graham Platner, a Democratic Senate candidate in Maine, has issued a public apology for controversial social media posts made in the years following his military service. The oyster farmer and veteran addressed comments from Reddit where he had made critical statements about police and rural Americans, as well as posts where he had referred to himself as a communist. Platner attributed these statements to a period of personal struggle after returning from tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
