Representatives Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Don Bacon (R-Neb.) have formally requested that President Donald Trump exempt coffee from his reciprocal tariff measures. In a letter sent to the President on Wednesday, the bipartisan lawmakers highlighted that coffee prices have increased 20.9% from the previous year according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Price Index. They suggested adding coffee products to the list of exempt goods in Executive Order 14257, noting that approximately two-thirds of Americans consume coffee daily.
