Higher Education Faces Challenges from Federal Funding Cuts

Leaders from Northern Illinois University, Kishwaukee College, and Waubonsee Community College gathered at a DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation event to discuss challenges facing higher education. Kishwaukee College President Laurie Borowicz highlighted the loss of federal funding as a significant concern, noting that her institution received only 10 days' notice before losing a multimillion-dollar federal grant. This financial uncertainty has prompted the college to budget differently, including planning for contingencies to address potential future funding losses.
