The U.S. Senate confirmed Susan Monarez as the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director on Tuesday with a 51-47 vote along party lines. Monarez, who holds a Ph.D. but is not a medical doctor, was nominated by President Trump in March and has been serving as the CDC's acting head since January. Prior to this role, she led the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, bringing experience in health innovation, disaster preparedness, and biosecurity to her new position.
