The U.S. Department of Energy has launched an initiative to expedite the development of nuclear power in response to the increasing energy demands of artificial intelligence data centers. According to the report, the DOE is fast-tracking 11 companies to develop pilot reactors that could achieve criticality by 2026. This federal effort comes amid projections that AI infrastructure will require approximately 150 gigawatts of power annually by 2030.
