ExxonMobil anticipates the European Union will sign multi-decade contracts for U.S. liquefied natural gas as part of a $750 billion agreement to purchase American energy by 2028. The United States and European Union established this trade agreement on July 27, 2024, covering natural gas, oil, nuclear fuel, and reactors over the next three years. Peter Clarke, Exxon's senior vice president of LNG, identified Europe as the most critical market for U.S. exports and encouraged the bloc to commit to long-term contracting arrangements.
