Ian Roberts, superintendent of Iowa's largest school district, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Friday and is being held at the Woodbury County Law Enforcement Center in Sioux City. According to ICE, Roberts, who is from Guyana, was subject to a final removal order issued in 2024 and allegedly lacked work authorization. The arrest occurred during a traffic stop while Roberts was driving a school district vehicle, after which officers reported he fled before being apprehended with assistance from Iowa State Patrol.
