Japan secures promise to fix overlapping duties and refund excess charges
1.
The United States government has committed to amending a presidential executive order to eliminate overlapping tariffs on Japanese imports, according to Japan's Economic Revitalization Minister Ryosei Akazawa. Following discussions in Washington on Thursday, Akazawa reported that US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged the need to correct what the Japanese official described as a "regrettable" error in the original order. The amendment aims to prevent the application of a 15% levy on Japanese goods already subject to higher tariff rates.
