Monarez becomes first CDC director to undergo Senate confirmation
1.
The U.S. Senate has confirmed Susan Monarez as the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with a 51-47 vote. Monarez, who had been serving as acting director since January, was formally nominated by President Donald Trump in March after he withdrew his initial nominee, David Weldon. This confirmation makes Monarez the first CDC director to undergo the Senate confirmation process under a law enacted in 2023.
