Federal assistance programs supporting millions of Americans face imminent funding shortfalls beginning Saturday if the ongoing government shutdown continues. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides grocery assistance to approximately one in eight Americans, will begin running out of funds on November 1. Head Start preschool programs and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) also face imminent funding gaps.
