DOJ Sues California Over Transgender Athlete Participation Policy

The Justice Department has filed a civil lawsuit against California's Department of Education and the California Interscholastic Foundation (CIF) over policies allowing transgender athletes to participate in school sports. The federal complaint alleges these policies violate federal civil rights laws by permitting transgender students to compete in categories aligned with their gender identity. Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated the department believes these policies create unequal athletic opportunities and violate federal law.
