The U.S. Secret Service has dismantled an extensive telecommunications threat system located within 35 miles of the United Nations headquarters in New York City. The network, consisting of over 300 SIM servers containing more than 100,000 SIM cards, had the capability to potentially disrupt cellular service across the metropolitan area. Officials indicate the system could have generated up to 30 million text messages per minute and potentially disabled cell towers throughout the city.
