Park Police Chief Now Reports Directly to Interior Secretary Burgum

The Department of the Interior has implemented a significant restructuring of the U.S. Park Police command structure. Under a new order signed by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on August 25, 2025, U.S. Park Police Chief Jessica Taylor will now report directly to Burgum or his designee, bypassing the traditional National Park Service chain of command. This change removes both the National Park Service director and the assistant secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks from supervisory roles over the police force.
