States Revoke In-State Tuition for Undocumented Students

Several states are eliminating in-state tuition benefits for students without legal immigration status, significantly impacting their educational opportunities. Florida recently revoked a 2014 law that had allowed these residents to qualify for in-state tuition rates at public colleges and universities, affecting over 6,500 students who qualified for the waiver during the 2023-2024 academic year. The cost difference is substantial, with out-of-state tuition at the University of Florida estimated at approximately $30,900 compared to $6,380 for state residents.
