Utah Redistricting Law Faces New Legal Challenge Over Repeal Effort

Plaintiffs who previously sued Utah state lawmakers regarding Proposition 4 have filed a new legal motion seeking to block a Republican-led effort to repeal the redistricting law. The filing comes after the plaintiffs secured a victory in August when Judge Dianna Gibson ruled that lawmakers had acted unlawfully by altering the 2018 ballot initiative. The plaintiffs, including Mormon Women for Ethical Government and the League of Women Voters of Utah, argue that the current repeal effort through an indirect initiative process is constitutionally equivalent to the changes already deemed unlawful.
