Changes to US-funded media and anti-censorship programs spark debate
1.
The Trump administration has implemented significant changes to U.S. foreign broadcasting and anti-censorship programs. In February 2025, President Trump appointed Kari Lake as senior adviser to the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and other U.S.-funded international broadcasters. Lake has placed VOA staff on administrative leave, announced funding cuts, and terminated contract employees, actions that have prompted legal challenges from the affected organizations.
