DHS Officers Handcuff Nadler Aide in Congressman's Manhattan Office

A staff member for Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) was temporarily handcuffed by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) police officers in the congressman's Manhattan office, according to reports from The Gothamist. The incident, captured on video, showed DHS officers entering Nadler's district office located in a federal building that also houses an immigration courthouse. Officers accused staff members of 'harboring rioters' during the confrontation, which resulted in one aide being handcuffed while visibly distressed.

According to DHS statements, the handcuffed individual had allegedly blocked officers from conducting a security check. The officers claimed they were responding to information suggesting protesters were present in the lawmaker's office. The video footage also showed an officer attempting to enter a private area of the office while a staff member requested a warrant. Both Nadler's office and a DHS spokesperson later confirmed that the staff member was neither arrested nor charged with any crime.

The incident occurred on the same day that protesters had gathered outside the federal building to demonstrate against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The staff member who was handcuffed later stated in a brief telephone interview that 'everything resolved' but declined to provide further comments on the matter. Politico also reported on the incident, describing the aide as having been 'briefly detained.'

Representative Nadler, who has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, has made headlines earlier this year for other matters, including his critique of tech billionaire Elon Musk regarding claims about federal fund management. The congressman's office is situated in the same building as an immigration courthouse, which may have contributed to the heightened security concerns that led to the confrontation between DHS officers and Nadler's staff.
