The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) currently has sufficient funding to maintain operations for the first five days of the ongoing government shutdown. However, taxpayers who received extensions to file their 2024 tax returns by the October 15 deadline may encounter processing delays if the funding impasse continues beyond the initial contingency period, which ends at 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
